John Brown Media is seeking to appoint a Digital Editor in Cape Town. The role reports directly to the Digital Director and Group Head of Food. The ideal candidate has a passion for all digital media and a basic understanding of everyday food and cooking. You will need to drive digital content proactively, continually looking for opportunities to improve content across platforms and push the boundaries with world-class work.

Key responsibilities:

Commercial:

  • Work closely with the account director to develop digital content strategies for clients and advertisers that are engaging, innovative and deliver on commercial objectives and briefs
  • Pioneer new content ideas, delivery mechanics and recommendations
  • Proactively identify business solutions, new commercial opportunities and ways to grow the online audience
  • Be the client-facing digital point of contact
  • Provide strategic direction on all digital client properties
  • Innovate client offering – proactively drive newness and increase the value of content offering
  • Advise on digital best practice, share and interpret industry news and innovations
  • Read and interpret Google Analytics and social media reports and apply learnings insights and recommendations
  • Foster a strong relationship with the various client teams, with the support of the account director
  • Ensure a robust content planning and delivery process, working with the traffic manager

Content Planning and Production

  • Be the custodian of high-quality content across all digital platforms
  • Oversee content production and implementation for all digital platforms, from brief to final reporting phase, including but not limited to social media, video, newsletters, websites, banner advertising
  • Oversee monthly content plans
  • Present content strategies to client
  • Brief and commission content, including photographic and video shoots
  • Support your team in producing top-quality content that delivers on the clients’ briefs and business objectives
  • Continuously evaluate content for optimisation
  • Liaise with developers with respect to the uploading of content, Q&A and troubleshooting
  • Liaise with external suppliers and manage, analyse and share the paid media for all major social media channels
  • Manage the digital copy writer
What you’ll need:
  • 5+ years working as a digital native in a content marketing, publishing or agency environment
  • Demonstrable experience in creating effective content marketing or branded content
  • Strong creative thinker
  • Journalistic instincts and editorial expertise
  • Confident presentation skills
  • Comfortable in reviewing and interpreting data and ability to compile content performance reports
  • Extensive knowledge of digital best practice
  • Experience in WordPress or similar CMS
  • A good knowledge of Google Analytics, SEO and basic HTML
  • Understanding of technology and how it can creatively support content delivery
  • Understanding of and interest in food, especially in the South African market, is a bonus
